A Ton of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season present a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and using deep breathing to refrain from arguing with family members. Hopefully you were able to do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting developments surfaced over the festive period, and if you missed any, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Truly the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop further production. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a hopeful indicator. But, the promotional image for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two
Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
