Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Significant Control Tower IT Issue
Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.
Several flyers reported being stuck in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Flights Resume with Residual Impact
A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".
That said, ongoing issues are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.
An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.
"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Source of the Issue
The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.
Flyers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
