Tributes Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt prepared to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Enough time has elapsed that I can at last put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began passing more hours together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded never-before-seen clips from the movie, commenting that he doesn't recollect "any day without joy".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Fellow Artist
In a distinct tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
This week, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the disclosure of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the LAPD.
A judicial mandate put a security hold on the cases to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the active case.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Aftermath and Reactions
After the deaths, public individuals expressed divergent reactions.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making divisive statements that were met with immediate backlash by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the detractors recently. Speaking on his show, Rogan characterized the comments as "disturbing" and implied they revealed a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an associate should have acted when the impulse to comment on the tragedy was made.
